Welcome to Sustainable Seamstress in beautiful Downtown Thomasville GA.

We offer Custom Sewing and Alterations and specialize in Custom made vintage style and modern clothing.  We offer classes in quilting, sewing, and hand crafts.  Currently we are building our stock of Indie sewing patterns and fabric samples.  We love the sustainability of upcycling and refashioning and vintage clothing.  We have access to both organic and ecofriendly materials as well as conventional fabrics.  If you are looking for a vintage dress, a classic style, a modern garment or something in between, we would love to help!

VINTAGE STYLE:

Vintage clothing is my passion.  I love anything from the 1930's through the 1980's.  Shirt dresses are my favorite!  If you are looking for a truely vintage dress or you want a dress you have seen recreated using new fabrics, we can help.  We love to support Indie pattern designers!  If there isn't a pattern for what you are looking for, I can design and create one for you.  Specialty sizes are no problem. Linen, Bamboo, and Cotton are personal fabric favorites that help keep you cool in the Southern heat!  We are building our stock of fabric samples to aide in finding the perfect fabric for your project.

ALTERATIONS:

Whether you are getting married and need your bridal gown adjusted to fit or you just need your pants hemmed, we would love to help.  See our alterations pricelist page for that info.  We also offer repair and mending services.

CLASSES:

We offer classes in Quiting, Sewing, Bagmaking, Upcycling/Refashioning, and crafting.  Group classes are welcome as are one on one classes. If there is something specific you would like to learn please ask, we would love to help!  I have been sewing, Quilting, and crafting etc. for over 30 years and love to share my knowledge and passion with others!  Keep an eye on the Classes page for the newest and most up-to-date list of classes offered.

CUSTOM SEWING:

Whether you are looking for a special garment, a new set of curtains, some couch cushions or throw pillows, something for your children, a gift for a mother-to-be or need your hunting gear repaired, we are here to help.  Please inquire.

UPCYCLING AND REFASHIONING:

Upcycling and Refashioning are an eco friendly and sustainable way to fashion.  Whether you have some clothes you love that no longer fit or you just love to thrift shop, we can help you turn your items into new garments or even bags etc that you can continue to love.  Slow fashion is a growing trend to move away from fast fashion and all it entails.  We offer ecofriendly fabrics for those who are interested as well.  Whether you are looking for organic bamboo or cotton or are looking for Linen and Hemp we are happy to assist.  Linen is one of my all time favorite fabrics.  There are many weights of Linen and it is great to help keep you cool in the southern summer heat.  Linen is absorbent, breathable and stronger than cotton.  It is the oldest known fibre and wonderful to wear.  It requires less water to grow than cotton and there is very little waste when using this fibre.  It typically requires use of fewer pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides than cotton and you can avoid their use all together if you find organic linen.  Another great thing about linen is its very strong and lasts much longer than other materials.
